Newly elected Jasdan MLA Kunvarji Bavaliya Tuesday took oath as a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.
Bavaliya was administered the oath by Speaker Rajendra Trivedi in his office at Gujarat Assembly building in Gandhinagar.
Education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama was present along with other BJP leaders during the oath taking ceremony.
Bavaliya recently defeated Congress candidate Avsar Nakiya in Jasdan Assembly bypoll by over 19,000 votes.
He had yesterday met prime minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, where the latter congratulated him.
"I will accept any responsibility given to me by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah regarding the 2019 elections," Bavaliya told reporters after taking oath.
Bavaliya, a five-time Congress MLA from Jasdan and one time MP from Rajkot, had quit the party and joined BJP in July last year.
He was made cabinet minister in chief minister Vijay Rupani government on the same day that he quit the Congress.
