Private sector operator Gujarat Pipavav Port has tied-up with NYK Auto Logistics to facilitate auto exports from the facility.

The port will sub-lease land inside the premises to NYK for developing a dedicated common user integrated RoRo (roll on roll off) terminal, a statement said here today.

The unit will have a capacity to handle 2,50,000 vehicles per annum and shall be operational by June 2015, it said.

It can be noted that a slew of auto makers, from Tata to other names like Renault and Maruti Suzuki have announced manufacturing facilities in Gujarat.

Gujarat Pipavav, a unit of global port operator APM Terminals, was earlier into container, bulk and liquid cargo handling.

"NYK is a proven leader in operating auto terminals worldwide and has an extensive fleet of RoRo ships offering regular sailings to and from the major ports around the globe," the port's managing director Prakash Tulsiani said.

The statement, however, did not give details of the investment, if any, required for developing the facility.

NYK operates 18 such terminals globally, including seven in China, Thailand and Singapore, it said.

The Gujarat Pipavav Port scrip was trading 1.64 per cent up at Rs 173.95 apiece on the BSE at 1348 hrs.
