Disgruntled Congress workers today held protests at various places in Gujarat over the party's choice of candidates in the first list for the next month's assembly polls.

Protest were held in Surat, Dhoraji and Jamangar.

In Surat, party workers demonstrated against the candidature of Jignesh Mewasa from Kamrej seat demanding that the ticket should have gone to a candidate from a minority community. Congress leaders Feroz Malek and his supporters resigned from the party in the protest.

Surat city unit woman wing president Jyotiben Sojitra also quit the party along with her supporters in protest against no woman being nominated from the city or district.

In Bharuch, effigy of state Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki was burnt by disgruntled party workers as the ticket was given to Kiran Thakor.

In Dhoraji, Congress workers held protest against the nomination of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) member Lalit Vasoya.

Protests were also held over the nomination of BJP turncoat Vallabh Dharadiya from Jamangar rural seat.

After the Congress released its first list of 77 candidates last night, PAAS workers held protests in Surat claiming that they were not been given proper representation by the party.

The Congress has given tickets to two PAAS members and over 20 Patidars.
