Ahead of the festival season, owners of fair-price shops in Gujarat today said they would not distribute kerosene to protest a cut in the supply.

"We will not distribute kerosene through our shops until the government meets our demand to roll back the cut in amount of kerosene supplied to our shops," said Prahlad Modi, president of Fair Price Shop Association and younger brother of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Union Government was already supplying 15 per cent less kerosene than what these shops required, and now there was another 50 per cent cut in the supply, he said.

"We demand that the state government roll back this cut, or else we will continue with our protest," he said.
