Former dean of Rajkot-based Saurashtra University's homoeopathy department and two trustees of a city-based homoeopathy college affiliated to the varsity were today arrested in connection with an alleged fake mark sheet scam, police said.
An inquiry panel set up by the varsity purportedly found that several students had secured admission directly in the second year of the BHMS course in three colleges affiliated to the Saurashtra University (SU) since 2012 on the basis of the "fake" mark-sheets.
The accused Amitabh Joshi, a former dean, and Deepak Dangar and Janak Mehta, both trustees of Dangar Homoeopathy College, have been accused of issuing fake mark sheets of the first-year course by taking money from students so that they can secure admission directly in the second year of the four-and-half-year (BHMS) course, Additional DCP Harshad Mehta said.
The trio were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by SU officials, he said.
"Joshi, Dangar, and Mehta were taking money from students and giving them admission directly in the second year," the officer said, adding that further investigation is underway.
He said the trio have been booked under various sections of the IPC for forgery.
