Gujarat Congress today demanded a ban on telecast of movies featuring actor Paresh Rawal, the BJP candidate from Ahmedabad-East Lok Sabha seat, till the voting is over.
The party's legal cell has made the demand in a letter to Gujarat's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anita Karwal as well as the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi.
Nikunj Balar, Convener of the cell, said he has requested the authorities to take necessary action to stop TV channels from showing movies featuring stars who are contesting elections.

"Rawal is now a BJP candidate. Thus, he will get publicity every time his movie is aired by TV channels. Today, a channel was telecasting one of his movies, which according to us, is prohibited under the model code of conduct," Balar said.
"This is not a complaint. We are just trying to draw the attention of election officers on this issue. I have requested them to direct TV channels not to broadcast movies of those stars who have been declared candidates by political parties," he added.
