Chief Minister Narendra Modi contested the Planning Commission data on various social indicators for the state, saying there is a discrepancy in the Centre's data, according to sources.

The Plan size was finalised here at a meeting between the Commission's Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Modi.

The Chief Minister said the Plan size approved was more than what was even proposed by the state.

"We proposed a Plan size of Rs 50,000 crore, but the Commission thought that we can do well above that. They found it appropriate to fix the outlay at Rs 51,000 crore," Modi told reporters after the meeting.

While Ahluwalia pointed out lack of progress on social issues, he admitted that the state has been registering a robust economic growth in double digits.

But the human development indicators were not matching the pace of economic growth, he said.

The Commission has suggested that the state needs to take necessary steps to tackle the problem of adverse child sex ratio and malnutrition.

However, Modi said, "We were able to achieve reduction of four points in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in a single year in 2010 and the current rate is 44 per thousand live births".

He said reducing IMR to thirty by 2015 is an important goal for the state.

The Chief Minister also suggested that the Centre should come out with National Fuel Policy for working out an average price for brining a uniform pricing across different states. Mumbai and Delhi get natural gas at cheaper rates.
