Gujarat government today took stock of the situation in rain-hit areas as state minister Vijay Rupani assessed the damages caused due to flooding of Shetrunji river in Amreli and Bhavanagar districts.

"We have been informed that several people and lions drowned in the Shetrunji river which flows along Amreli and Bhavnagar district. So, we conducted a search operation at Shetrunji dam at Palitana," Rupani, Gujarat Transport and Water Resource Minister, told PTI here.

"A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, forest department officials, the police and irrigation department staff including me have been scanning the entire river to assess the situation here," he said.

"We have thoroughly scanned the entire area so that no dead bodies of humans or animal carcass are left behind. Normalcy has been restored in the area. Electricity will be restored in all villages by tonight," Rupani added.

Gujarat Relief Director Bipin Bhatt told reporters here today that the government would compensate people who have lost their animals.

At least 70 people died in Gujarat due to a flood-like situation caused by heavy rains due to a deep depression on June 24.
