The Gujarat government Monday announced that it was postponing the competitive exam for the post of Forest Guard on account of "administrative" reasons, nearly two weeks before its scheduled date on December 23, an official said.

Around 5 lakh candidates had applied for around 350 posts for the exam which is being conducted by the Gujarat University.

"The exam has been postponed due to administrative issues. Around 5 lakh candidates had applied for around 350 posts. The Gujarat University is conducting the exam," said Rajiv Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Forests and Environment department.

Earlier, the government had advertised the vacancies to be filled in Forest department offices across the state.

Interestingly, the government had cancelled the exam to fill posts of police constables on December 2 due to paper leak.

Around 8.75 lakh candidates were scheduled to appear for that exam, which was cancelled just hours before it was scheduled to commence.

The written test is now rescheduled to January 6.

Police have so far arrested 13 persons in connection with the alleged paper leak.
