Gujarat govt transfers 39 IPS officers

In a major reshuffle, Gujarat government today transferred 39 senior IPS officers, including police commissioners of Rajkot and Surat.

Through a notification issued by the state Home Department, Surat city Commissioner of Police (CP) Rakesh Asthana has been transferred as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed Units at Gandhinagar.

Ashish Bhatia, currently serving as Special Director of state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), has been made the new police commissioner of Surat.

Rajkot police commissioner Mohan Jha has been transferred as the ADGP (Admin) in Gandhinagar, while Range IG of Vadodara Anupam Singh Gehlot is the new Rajkot CP.
 

Other officers who were transferred include DGP, Law and Order, P P Pandey, an accused in Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, who has been appointed as Director of ACB in Ahmedabad.

Pandey, who is currently out on bail, is replaced by ADGP, Human Rights, Tirth Raj.

ADGP, Technical Services, Vipul Vijoy has been transferred as Director of Security with Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation. He has been replaced by ADGP, Admin, A K Singh.

Mohan Jha is now the ADGP, Admin, while ADGP, CID Crime, Meera Ramnivas is posted as the new ADGP of Human Rights.

Abhay Chudasama, an accused in Soharabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, has been transferred as the Joint Managing Director of Gujarat Police Housing Corporation at Gandhinagar from his present position of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of State Monitoring Cell.

Chudasma is also currently out on bail.
