Gujarat High Court today rejected appeal filed by the state government against acquittal of BJP MLA from Gondal, Jayrajsinh Jadeja, in a murder case, and acquitted three others.

Division bench of Justice Akil Kureshi and Justice Z K Saiyed, however, uphled the life sentence awarded to Viramdevsinh Jadeja by the trial court.

Vinubhai Shinghala, BJP district unit president, was shot dead at his residence on March 19, 2004. Police registered a case against ten people, including Jayrajsinh Jadeja.

Rajkot sessions court in 2009 acquitted six persons including Jadeja, sentencing remaining four to life imprisonment.

State government and Singhala's father Gobarbhai Singhala challenged the acquittals, while the four convicts too filed appeals.

The High Court today rejected the appeal of the state government, and acquitted Gurunamsinh Bedi alias Guru, Salim Pathan and Kailash More for want of evidence.

Police's case against the MLA was that he hired killers to murder Singhala over a dispute over a large tract of land outside Gondal.
