Gujarat I-Day function to be held in Lunawada

The Gujarat government today said that the state-level celebrations of the 69th Independence Day will be held in Lunawada town, the headquarter of the newly formed Mahisagar district.

As per an official release, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel will unfurl the tricolor at Lunawada in the presence of state Governor O P Kohli, ministers and other dignitaries.

On the August 14 morning, Patel will arrive at Lunawada to take part in various programs in the district.

On that day, the Chief Minister will remain present at a program in Santrampur village, where she will distribute assistance to tribals. Later, she will address a gathering of local women in Virpur village, the release stated.
 

On the same day, she will dedicate five projects worth Rs 44.02 crore and perform ground breaking ceremony for three other projects worth Rs 69 crore in different parts of the district, it added.

Later during the evening, Governor O P Kohli will host a ceremony to felicitate prominent citizens and freedom fighters in the presence of Patel.

Since 2003, Gujarat government organises state level functions of Republic Day and Independence Day at different district headquarters instead of celebrating them at state capital Gandhinagar.
