Gujarat's Leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani and Congress MLA Virji Thummar today appeared before a magistrate court in Amreli in a 2015 effigy burning case.

Nine local Congress leaders, including Dhanani and Thummar, were booked under IPC section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) for allegedly burning an effigy of 'inflation' at Rajkamal Chowk in Amreli town, around 225 kms away from here, when Anandiben Patel was the chief minister of the state.

Dhanani represents Amreli seat in Saurashtra region while Thummar represents Lathi seat in Amreli district.

As the case is still pending, Dhanani, Thummar and three others appeared before Judicial Magistrate R C Sodhaparmar, said Assistant Public Prosecutor Amit Bhadaliya.

The matter, however, was adjourned till February 8 as the other accused did not appear before the court.
