Sardar Sarovar dam at Kevadia in Narmada district of Gujarat started overflowing today following the release of water from Omkareshwar dam in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, which is lashed by heavy rains.
"The water level (at the dam) reached 123.34 metres at 1800 hrs and is likely to increase up to 124 metres tonight. This follows the release of 2.5 lakh cusecs of water from Omkareshwar dam on Narmada river in Madhya Pradesh," Executive Engineer at the dam, A V Gajjar told PTI.
He said all the six units of the riverbed power house at the dam has started generating 1200 MW of power at their fullest installed capacity.
