The sloth bear, which had killed three persons and injured four others, was today shot dead in a forest area near Kansa village in Banaskantha district, forest officials said.
The sloth bear was shot dead in a joint combing operation by the state forest department officials and police.
"A female sloth bear was shot dead by the police when it tried to attack officials who were fixing track camera in the forest area where it had killed three persons," said Deputy Conservator of Forest Banaskantha, IK Barad.

The forest department and police had undertaken a joint operation in the area to track down the wild animal which had killed three persons, including a forest official.
Over a hundred personnel participated in the combing operation since this morning.
When they were fixing track camera in the evening, the police some movement in a dense adjoining bush, Barad said.
"Upon noticing the bear, they tried to control it by firing tranquilliser, but tranquilliser bullet could not reach it owing to dense bush. When it tried to attack them, police who were positioned nearby fired bullets on it and killed it on the spot," added Barad.
