Modi, on this occasion, announced a plan to set up a Multi-Modal Affordable Transport Authority (MATA) for the developing urban areas in Gujarat.
Talking about the proposed development of "world-class" cities along the Gujarat coastline, Modi said a multi-modal transportation system was essential.
The 468-km long Narmada main canal in the state could be used for water transport, he said.
In many Indian cities, people need 45-60 minutes to commute within the city limits, while Ahmedabad and Surat were fortunate to have average commuting time of 20 minutes, he said.
