Gujarat Vidyapith, which was established by Mahatma Gandhi, announced here today that Anamik Shah has been appointed its Vice Chancellor (VC) after a three-member committee sanctioned his name, the varsity's registrar said.

"Anamik Shah, who is presently senior professor of Chemistry in Saurashtra University has been appointed as Gujarat Vidyapith's Vice Chancellor," Gujarat Vidyapith Registrar Rajendra Khimani said.

A formal appointment letter will be sent to Shah, Khimani said, adding that his term as VC would last three after the date of his appointment.

The appointment was necessitated after the incumbent Vice Chancellor Sudershan Iyengar retired on July 31 this year.

Iyengar was appointed Gujarat Vidyapith Vice Chancellor in 2005 and served for around nine years.
