He was 77. He is survived by his wife Vibha and daughter Rucha.
"Desai suffered cardiogenic shock. His condition was very bad when he was brought to the hospital in the morning and despite our efforts, he could not be saved," Dr Ramesh Bavisi, consultant physician at Jivraj Mehta Hospital, said.
A Physics Professor, Desai was an accomplished singer and trained thousands of students, nurturing new talent in Gujarati music.
Paying tributes to the noted singer, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "We will miss the eminent singer, composer Shri Rasbihari Desai who made invaluable contribution to Gujarati music"
