Gujjars clash with police during anti-encroachment drive

Five police personnel, including a revenue official were injured when members of the Gujjar community started pelting stones at them while the team was undertaking an anti-encroachment drive in the Nikki Tawi area today.

"Five police personnel were injured this evening when a police team and a group of revenue officials that was in the Nikki Tawi area to remove encroachment, was attacked by the members of the Gujjar community that objected to the anti encroachment drive," a police official said.

He said that a group of Gujjars first objected to the drive and later started pelting stones at the police demolition team.
 

The injured police personnel were taken to the hospital and are under treatment, police said.

They added that a case has been registered against several members of the Gujjar community.
