The state unit of BJP today claimed that the Gujjar community in Jammu and Kashmir was tilting towards the party ever since the rally of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi here.

"After Modi's rally at Jammu, the Gujjars are now openly turning towards BJP in large numbers as they are of the firm view that 'Modi for PM' means end of discrimination, new era of development and welfare of ignored sections of the society," said BJP State President Jugal Kishore Sharma.

Sharma said this to reporters after an interactive session with Gujjars from different areas of Jammu province.

"Like other communities, Gujjars across the country are impressed by the development plank of Narendra Modi and those in Jammu and Kashmir too want to see him as the next Prime Minister of India," he said.

Sharma, who was briefed about the plight of the Gujjars in the state, said successive state governments had not done anything for the upliftment of the community.

Gujjars have realized that National Conference, Congress and PDP have only befooled them with slogans and promises of their economic upliftment and social welfare, he said.
