Gujjars pay homage to those who died during 2008 agitation

A condolence meeting was held at Pilukapura area in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district to pay homage to 18 people who lost their lives during the 2008 Gujjar agitation.

Kirori Singh Bainsla and other community members paid floral tributes to the people who died on this day in Pilukapura in 2008.

Bainsla also addressed a gathering of nearly 500 people and said that the struggle of the community to get five per cent reservation was on, spokesperson of Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, Himmat Singh said.

He said another condolence meeting will be held tomorrow in Sikandara where 20 people had died during the agitation.

Gujjar leaders had threatened to revive the agitation from today for five per cent reservation in government jobs and educational institutions in Rajasthan.

 

The agitation, however, was called off after the community reached at an agreement with a group of state ministers on

May 19.
