"We seek support from all political parties, linguistic groups, media and other influential dignitaries of country for including significant tribal language of Gojri into the Eighth Schedule of Constitution," said Javaid Rahi, secretary of Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation.
Claiming that the proposal in this regard had been pending with the Centre for past two decades, Rahi sought initiation of the process for necessary constitutional amendment in this regard during next session of the Parliament.
He said Gojri has been recognised as a tribal language by the National Academy of Letters of Sahitya Academy and noted saint scholar and thirteenth century poet Hazrat Amir Khusroo had mentioned Gojri in the list of eighteen major Indian languages of his time.
Earlier this month, the state government had decided to recommend inclusion of Gojri in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
