The 27th edition of the Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally, being hosted by Gulf Oil Lubricants India Limited (GOLIL) in association with Sportscraft, will be held on July 10, it was announced here today.
"This event is open to riders from all over India. The first flag-off was held in 88 (1988) and we are continuing. It is very rare that you have a scooter rally exclusive; you will have bike things and all that. It is a different challenge, when you have a bike it is different thing altogether," Srikant Karani, founder, Sportscraft told reporters.
"We have received entries from Nashik, Pune, Thane, New Bombay (Mumbai), Bhopal, Mumbai and Rajasthan and also from Banglore (Bengaluru) which have not come, but they have confirmed on the phone from TVS. We have last year's winner Shamim Khan for Mahindra and Mahindra's.

"We have Shamim Khan leading, he will be number one. As per the rule, always the winner gets to start. We also have Nilesh Thakre, Shashank Chawale (both Nashik), Muzzafar Ali Mohammed, Muzid Khan (both Bhopal), Manjeet Singh (Mumbai) , Kunal Rao, Pinkesh Thakker (Pune) (among others) (who will take part in the event)," Karani said, adding among the lady participants are Nidhi Shukla.
"There are 40 entries in the pipeline, (of which) 25 are confirmed with all the paper work. We are expecting about 45 to 50 (participants) because entries closed on the 5th (July)," he added.
Karani described the event as "it is more like a cross-country, endure, super-cross, moto-cross, everything rolled in one (and) it is quite challenging."
The event is open for Indian scooters and the classification will be - Class S-1 81 cc upto 110cc, 2 stroke, Class-S-2 111cc upto 160 cc, 2 stroke and Class FSG upto 160cc, 4 stroke, a release said.
The start is at 9 am and the finish is at K-Star hotel in Navi Mumbai, it added.
