Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, will begin on Sunday across the Gulf region, it was announced today.
The Union Moon Sighting Committee, which is constituted to view the new crescent, marking the beginning of the lunar month, announced this evening that Sunday will be the first day of fasting in the UAE.
The 'Shoura Council' of Saudi Arabia announced that tomorrow will be the last day of Shaaban, the month preceding Ramadan in the lunar Hijri calendar, and therefore Ramadan will begin in the Kingdom on Sunday.

In Qatar, the Crescent Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, announced that June 29 will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.
