Gur (jaggery) prices shot up by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following tight supplies amid speculative buying.
Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also displayed a firm trend with prices advancing up to Rs 125 per quintal on paucity of stocks.
Marketmen said shortage of ready stocks due to halt in production following rise in mercury amid speculative buying by stockists and retailers mainly brought the upside gur prices.

At Muzaffarnagar, gur Chakku prices climbed up by Rs 125 to close at Rs 2,650-3,000 as compared to previous close of Rs 2,650-2,875 per quintal.
Meanwhile, Khurpa prices showed a gain of Rs 50 at Rs 2,650-2,700 per quintal.
Coming to Muradnagar, gur pedi prices were higher by Rs 50 to settle at Rs 2,950-3,050 per quintal.
Following are today's rates (in Rs per quintal):
Gur chakku Rs 3,200-3,300, pedi Rs 3,300-3,400, dhayya Rs 3,500-3,600 and shakkar Rs 3,600-3,700.
Muzaffarnagar: Rasket Rs 2,550-2,600, chakku Rs 2,650-3,000, khurpa Rs 2,650-2,700 and Ladoo Rs 2,850-2,950.
Muradnagar: Pedi Rs 2,950-3,050 and dhayya Rs 3,000-3,050.
