Gur prices bounce on paucity of stocks, speculative buying

Gur (jaggery) prices bounced by Rs 200 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today on frantic buying by stockists and retailers, supported by restricted arrivals.

Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur mandies also showed a rise up to Rs 175 per quintal on paucity of stocks.

Marketmen stated that scarcity of stocks following tight supplies from manufacturing belts, mainly led to the sharp rise in prices.

Besides, increased buying by stockists and retailers and higher advices from neighbouring states helped the rising trend, they added.

In Delhi, gur Dhayya and Shakkar prices climbed up by Rs 200 each to end at Rs 3,500-3,600 and Rs 3,600-3,700 per quintal.
 

Meanwhile, gur Chakku and Pedi quoted higher by Rs 100 each to close at Rs 3,100-3,200 and Rs 3,300-3,400 per quintal.

At Muzaffarnagar, gur Chakku and Khurpa prices jumped from Rs 2,550-2,850 and Rs 2,600-2,650 to finish at Rs 2,675-3,025 and Rs 2,750-2,825, registering rise up to Rs 175 per quintal.

Gur Laddoo also remained the fancy of buyers, gained Rs 100 at Rs 2,850-3,050 per quintal.

Coming to Muradnagar, gur pedi and Dhayya prices also quot ed higher at Rs 3,000-3,050 and Rs 3,050-3,100 instead of Rs 2,900-3,000 and Rs 2,950-3,000 per quintal. Following are today's rates (in Rs per quintal):

Gur chakku Rs 3,100-3,200, pedi Rs 3,300-3,400, dhayya Rs 3,500-3,600 and shakkar Rs 3,600-3,700.

Muzaffarnagar: Rasket Rs 2,500-2,550, chakku Rs 2,675-3,025, khurpa Rs 2,750-2,825 and Ladoo Rs 2,850-3,050.

Muradnagar: Pedi Rs 3,000-3,050 and dhayya Rs 3,050-3,100.
