Gur (jaggery) prices soared by Rs 200 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following paucity of stocks on tight supplies amid strong demand from stockists and retailers.

Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also exhibited a firm trend with prices rising by up to Rs 250 per quintal on strong demand.

Marketmen said scarcity of stocks following negligible arrivals from manufacturing belts, triggered by aggressive buying by stockists and retailers, mainly led to the rise in gur prices.

They said rising sugar prices too influenced gur prices.
