Amid a rise in attacks on people by stray monkeys, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) today formed a dedicated team to catch the primates.

The initiative was taken after the MCG received many complaints regarding the monkey menace and attacks on women and children in various areas of Gurgaon.

"On a daily basis, the MCG receives more than 50 complaints of money attacks," MCG commissioner TL Satya Prakash said.

"We have made a 15-member team to catch the stray monkeys. These team members will lure monkeys keeping their favourite foods including bananas, gram, apples and other food which they like to eat inside the iron cages to catch them easily," he said.

"We have also been taking the help of Wild Life Care Federation (WLCF) which will also lead the team," the officer said.

He said the captured monkeys will undergo sterilisation with the help of the Health department followed by rehabilitation in the forest areas of Aravallis under Sohna Tehsil.
