The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) today threw open one lane of Hero Honda Chowk flyover here for motorists while saying 80 per cent work on the other side is also complete.

The Hero Honda Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway is one of the congested portions on the stretch and had hit the headlines last monsoons for a mammoth over 25-hour jam.

The NHAI has thrown open Jaipur-Delhi side of 1.4-KM flyover for motorists.

Haryana PWD Minister, Rao Narbir Singh, who inaugurated the flyover lane in the presence of senior NHAI officials, said several road infrastructural and metro projects are likely to be completed this year.

"Our aim is to widen Northern Peripheral Expressway (NPR) and Southern Peripheral Expressway (SPR) up to 16 lanes keeping in mind motorised growth of the city," he said.

The area around this Chowk is low-lying and hence waterlogging takes place every year.

"The opening of one side of the flyover will make the traffic movement smooth. We have set deadline to complete entire project by May 24, 2017 and it is moving in the right direction," a senior official of NHAI told PTI.
