Gutkha worth over Rs 19 lakh seized from Maha-Guj border

Banned gutkha worth Rs 19.20 lakh was seized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at Kalwan in the district on Maharashtra-Gujarat border, officials said today.

On a tip-off, a FDA team led by Joint Commissioner Chandrakant Pawar, Assistant Commissioner Ramchandra Koli and staff laid a trap at Kalwan square in Dindori taluka last morning and intercepted a truck heading towards Pune from Ahmedabad, officials said.

They found packets of gutkha bearing name of a prominent brand in the truck, officials said, adding that driver of the truck, Ravindra Singh Thakre (38) was arrested.

According to officials, the consignment was meant to be circulated in the state.
 

A case was registered at Vani police station.
