Gutkha worth Rs 1.8 crore seized

Gutkha worth Rs 1.8 crore was seized in three separate incidents in the district, police said today.

The seizures were made in Jalna city and Badnapur tehsil, following the two-day raids which started yesterday, they said.

On a tip-off, Gutkha bags worth Rs 70 lakh were recovered from a warehouse. In another incident, a similar consignment worth Rs 20 lakh was seized during checking of a goods carrier, Assistant Police Inspector (API) Vijay Jadhav said.

In a joint operation with the officials of Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the police intercepted a lorry and recovered the banned tobacco product worth Rs 90 lakh in the third incident, Inspector R Ballad of Badnapur police station said.
 

A case has been registered against four accused persons, police said, adding two of them have been detained for interrogation.
