Guv appoints committee for search for new HPU vice-chancellor

Governor Acharya Devvrat today appointed a four-member committee headed by Chief Secretary V C Pharka to search for a vice-chancellor (V-C) for the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU).

The committee headed by the chief secretary will have the secretary to governor, the education secretary and the V-C of the Central University as its members.

The six year (double term) of the former V-C, Prof A D N Bajpai, ended on May 24 last and Pro V-C Prof Rajinder Singh Chauhan was given additional charge. Chauhan retires on June 30 next.

The search committee will also meet to finalise the panel said advisor to Governor Prof Shashikant Sharma, adding that Chauhan would continue till the next V-C is appointed.
 

A large number of people from Himachal Pradesh and outside the state are aspiring for the post, a source said.
