West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi today said the authorities should take necessary action on reports of violence in the municipal elections of Bidhannagar and Asansol.

"They should take into consideration all necessary facts and take such action, if necessary, which is permissible under the law," he told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here.

Following allegations of large-scale violence, opposition parties have demanded fresh elections to the two municipal corporations in West Bengal.

A blame game has ensued between the ruling Trinamool Congress and opposition parties over violence during yesterday's elections.

The polls in these two municipal corporations are considered significant for being the last key elections in the state before it goes to Assembly polls next year.
