Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi today urged chartered accounts of the region to play a catalytic role in ensuring smooth transition to a new tax regime 'One Nation One Tax' which has been necessitated in view of GST roll out.

"Help and support from the chartered accountants would help the region in the smooth transition to one nation one tax regime," the governor said while inaugurating a two day national conference organised by the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India, Guwahati Branch here.

The fact that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is the premier accounting body of the nation, the conference will go a long way in empowering its members to keep pace with the rapid growth of the accountancy profession, he said.

"I am happy that the institute has achieved recognition globally, for its contribution in the fields of education, professional development, maintenance of high accounting, auditing and ethical standards", Mukhi said.

The role of chartered accountants is crucial in strengthening the fulcrum on which the entire accounting system of the nation revolves and hope the national conference becomes a brainstorming session of the chartered accountants and helps in further strengthening our financial management system.

The chartered accounts are in a position to realise and appreciate that this great move would go a long way in achieving a corruption free India where every citizen can be a partner in nation building and one that is not plagued by the ills of black marketing, hoarding, corruption, red-tape, the governor added.
