This will be the first North East Fashion Festival to be held in Guwahati from February 20 to 23.
The event is being organised by a private event management firm Basics Concepts and Marketing Private Limited along with Home Ministry and Assam government.
Ajay Kanaujai, Director of North-East Division of MHA, told reporters that the festival would be an effort to showcase the thrust of vast indigenous fashion craft and industry of these states to leading fashion designers.
He said the fashion industry of the country had yet not fully explored the scope of contribution of these states to the industry, adding the event would provide a platform for the same.
Coordinator of the project Shyam Kanu Mahanta said the main thrust of the event would be to provide boost to silk producers and weavers of these states.

"There are around 25 lakh silk weavers in Assam alone. Event like this will provide them an opportunity to directly negotiate with the leading fashion designers," he added.
Anand Kumar, Director, Basic Concepts, said the event would be organized by Basic Concepts while the venue and other logistic support would be provided by Assam government and Indian Tourism Development Corporation.
Kumar said slots would be provided to representatives of all north east Indian states to showcase their products.
