Three persons were arrested today for their alleged involvement in a string of burglaries in city, police said.

One of the accused, identified as Narayan Thevar alias Murugan (50), who is the kingpin of the gang, has allegedly been involved in burglaries for over 25 years and was convicted by courts multiple times, a police official said.

"We have arrested kingpin of the gang who has been committing such crimes since last 25 years and has been convicted by courts more than 25 times," said DCP Crime Vinay Rathod.

Murugan has been a habitual offender and he used to deploy ingenious strategies to trick the police.

"Once out of custody, he used to either regroup with old accomplices or form new gangs in jail to return to robberies," the official said.

In the latest incident in Dindoshi area on February 21, Murugan and his aides had committed a burglary in a mobile shop, taking away mobile phones worth Rs 2.75 lakh.

Police nabbed them after tracing the tower location of the stolen mobile phones to Kalyan.

The other two accused are identified as Ganpat Chavda (37) and Bharat Koli (26).

Police have recovered stolen property as well as the car used in crime, he added.
