A half burnt carcass of a sloth bear was recovered from a farm near Tilli Mohgaon village under Goregaon Forest Range in the district, an official said.

The spot falls near the buffer area of NNTR (Nawegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve), said the official.

"The incident is said to have happened a couple of days before and today a villager has been taken into custody," said the official.

"It is suspected that the animal, which is listed in schedule-I of the Wildlife Protection Act, was electrocuted and poachers have removed organs as they believe it is of medicinal use and because of some superstition prevailing in the society," he said.

Deputy Conservator of Forest Jitendra Ramgaonkar has confirmed that a man had been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

"We have collected samples of organs for DNA test. We are now looking for the arrested man's connection in few other poaching cases as well," he said.
