Citing that half of India's population depended on retail trade, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today reiterated her stand against FDI in retail trade.
"We came out of the union ministry because we opposed FDI in retail. We were against it as it would have an adverse effect on small traders. Suppose if India's population is 100 crore, then half of it survives on retail trade," Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress chief, said while inaugurating a shopping mall here.
Speaking on the mall built on PPP model, the Chief Minister said PPP models could become successful in the state.
