Press Trust of India New Delhi
The North Delhi Municipal Corporation today asked Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to hand over the sewer management in the city back to the civic bodies.

NDMC Mayor Yogender Chandolia asked the Lt Governor to handover the sewer management back to the municipal corporations since sewer was an integral part of the sanitation services which rests with the corporations, the NDMC said in a statement.

Chandolia said it was the need of the hour to strengthen the sanitation services of Delhi and hence the sewer system be handed over to the municipal corporations as it was prior to 1997.

The erstwhile unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was trifurcated in 2012 into separate civic bodies -- NDMC (North Delhi Municipal Corporation), SDMC (South Delhi Municipal Corporation) and EDMC (East Delhi Municipal Corporation).

Chandolia also welcomed the decision of the Lt Governor to reduce 90 per cent of sewer development charges in case of plots measuring up to 100 sq yards in colonies to be regularised.
