Press Trust of India New Delhi
Tihar jail has decided to launch a "happiness program" for "transforming the behaviour and lives" of prisoners, with the help of the Art of Living Foundation.

"A unique program of transforming the behaviour and lives of inmates or prisoners in Central Jail, Tihar will soon be started with the help of the Art of Living," Director General (Delhi Prisons) Vimla Mehra said today.

Preparations have been completed in all respects including obtaining consent from the Art of Living for providing spiritual Gurus "for preaching and making changes in the lives of inmates".

She said the Superintendent of Jails has been informed and instructed to prepare the inmates for the program.

The program proposes to bring the inmates of all 10 jails in Delhi together under one roof and to train them to get out from physical, mental and emotional stress as well as make them feel that they are just and kind human beings like others, the official said in a media release.

The inmates would be trained to keep themselves away from committing crimes and inflicting injuries to others.

The package or program also includes a study of the inmates' behaviour by psychiatrists from All India Institute of Medical Sciences before and after attending the program, the release said.

Mehra said in December last year counselling and healing was provided to 5000 inmates in collaboration with Art of Living.
