Har approves Bill to levy entertainment duty

The Haryana cabinet today approved the introduction of the Haryana Municipal Entertainment Duty Bill, 2017, to levy duty for admission to public entertainments in the state.

Earlier, the duty was imposed on public entertainments in accordance with the provisions of the Punjab Entertainment Duty Act ,1955, which has been repealed after the enactment of the Haryana Goods and Services Tax Act-2017, an official release said.

The duty will be collected by urban local bodies (ULB) and the funds received would be utilised for the development and betterment of civic amenities municipal areas, the state cabinet decided this evening, it said.
 

It will be levied on the entertainment points and outlets etc in ULB areas of the state and will be uniform across the state, the release said.

There will be a common list of exempted events or shows of entertainments. There will be regular check and monitoring, it said.
