The Haryana government has extended the deadline for setting up an eye hospital by the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust on the land leased by a Gurgaon panchayat till January next.

The Trust is yet to start construction of the eye hospital on the land leased by the Ulhawas Gram Panchayat.

The lease agreement was signed in January 2010.

The CAG, in its report in March this year, had slammed the state government for releasing the land to the Trust in Gurgaon in violation of the policy.

Opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) slammed the Hooda government for extending the time limit for construction of the hospital at a meeting of the Cabinet yesterday.

INLD leader and MLA Abhay Singh Chautala, in a release, demanded that the land should be given back to the panchayat.
