As a fire safety measure, Haryana government has issued a circular directing in-charges of all official buildings to ensure that electrical appliances not in use be switched off after working hours.

An official spokesman said a circular to this effect has been issued by the office of Chief Secretary.

He said in case of negligence, the branch or office in-charge would be held responsible.

During inspection of Haryana civil secretariat building here, electric points of appliances not in use were found switched on, he said.

Besides this, it has also been observed that after working hours, most of the electric appliances like computers, photostat machines, coolers and ACs are left switched on.

It is a very serious matter as this may also trigger a fire in the building, especially due to overheating or overloading in summers, he added.
