Haryana government has ordered a probe into the allegation against two construction companies amassing Rs 15 crore by "extorting" money from innocent buyers in the name of government stamp duty charges.

A spokesman of Haryana Revenue and Disaster Management Department said here today, the department received complaints against two companies which are based at New Delhi and Faridabad.

Referring to a complaint against a New Delhi-based builder, who had set up a housing project in Faridabad, the spokesman said, "there were reports of a big scandal by the company which adopted malpractices to extort money from the innocent buyer using the name of government stamp duty charges and by this, the company collected more than Rs 15 crore from the flat holders."

He said the company was allegedly cheating the government treasury by playing fraud.

The spokesman said a separate complaint has been received against another builder based at Faridabad wherein it was alleged that the company paid less stamp duty and registration fee on the documents which were executed by the Company.

However, the company collected or acquired the higher requisite fees from the buyers, he claimed.

An opportunity of personal hearing has also been given to these companies to produce documentary proof in their support and the matter is under active consideration of the Department, he added.

Meanwhile, the government has cautioned all builders to give immediate possession of flats or houses to purchasers and also get the registration done in their favour or otherwise, stamp duty collected by private builders should be returned to the owner, he said.
