The Haryana Women and Child Development Department has sent a written communication to its all Programme Officers working at district level under Integrated Child Development Service Cell to generate awareness in favour of girl child.
According to 2011 Census, Haryana has 877 females per 1000 males.
The Department's Director General, Sumita Misra said here today that the Programme Officers have been directed to organise awareness camps with the help of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Village Level Committees and Sakshar Mahila Samoohs and Anganwari workers to motivate the people to change their mindset.
"The initiative of the Khap and women of village Bibipur would also inspire and motivate other panchayats for taking such issues on their agenda. The Programme Officers have also been directed to send a quarterly report to the head office for review and take further steps in this regard," she said.
A large number of women were among those who had participated in a Mahapanchayat held in Bibipur village to debate the sensitive issue of female foeticide and seek solutions within the structure of Khap Panchayat.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had also appreciated this initiative taken by the panchayats and awarded Rs one crore to Bibipur.
The Khap Mahapanchayat held in Bibipur village on July 14, and attended by leaders of several Khaps from Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, took a stern stand against female foeticide and demanded that murder charges be slapped against those who indulge into the "heinous act".
