A village panchayat in Haryana, the state having lowest sex ratio in the country, will be honoured for its continuous efforts toward bringing about positive change in the lives of women.
Bibipur village in Jind district has been adjudged by the Centre as the best panchayat for its steps towards curbing menaces like female foeticide and domestic violence, besides other initiatives taken by it for improving the state of women.
Village head Sunil Jaglan, who will receive the award from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on April 24, said the panchayat, in an all-women meeting today, agreed on seeking strict action against culprits of domestic violence.

"A resolution seeking strict action against those involved in domestic violence was passed by the panchayat. We will also carry out campaigns to aware people about the cause," he said.
Jaglan said impressed with the panchayat's efforts, the Ministry of I&B made a documentary on today's all-woman meeting, which will be shown during the award ceremony at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
