Hardcore criminal arrested

A wanted hardcore criminal allegedly involved in a number of heinous crimes, including murder has been arrested, police said today.

Police had announced a reward of Rs one lakh on his head.

A .32 bore pistol and two magazines were also recovered from his possession.

Kuldeep Shahpuria alias Kallu was arrested by a special team of police near Sutlej Dam at Ludhiana yesterday while his wife Neeru was nabbed in village Mehlana close to Ambala City, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP urban) Surender Pal Singh said.

The accused and his wife were produced in a local court today. The court remanded in police custody of Kuldeep till February 23 while his wife was sent to judicial custody.
 

Kuldeep had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh from Gajender alias Gajju, a financer of Ambala Cantonment who was later murdered. Kuldeep was also wanted in this case, police said.

Police had arrested around one dozen persons in this murder case while prime accused Kuldeep was absconding.

The DCP said that Kuldeep was lodged in Faridabad jail in a murder case.

On November 10 last year, he was granted parole for one month but he did not turned back to jail, after the completion of parole period.

After jumping parole he was active in Ambala and adjoining Punjab area for the last two months, the DCP said.
