Press Trust of India Giridih (Jharkhand)

A hard-core Maoist active in and around Parasnath in naxal-affected Giridih district surrendered before the district administration today, police said.

Babuchand Marandi alias Suraj, a member of the Ajay Mahato-led squad, surrendered before Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar and Superintendent of Police Surendra Kumar Jha at a programme here.

Jha said Babuchand was involved in an encounter with security forces on Parasnath hills in June, 2007. He was also wanted in other Maoist related cases.

He was a resident of Badkharo village under Nimiaghat police station of the district.

The DC and SP said the state government has framed an attractive surrender policy for the misguided youths to bring them back into the mainstream of the society.
