A bomb threat today forced the evacuation of least four buildings at the prestigious Harvard University in the US, officials said.

"Earlier today, we received via email an unconfirmed bomb threat that has led to the evacuation of The Science Center, Sever, Emerson, and Thayer Halls. Harvard University Police Department and other law enforcement officials are currently searching the four buildings," said Katie Lapp, executive vice president of Harvard University in an email to students and faculty.

Nothing to substantiate the emailed threat has been found, Katie said.

"Harvard is working with local and federal law enforcement officials to investigate the source of the threat, which has not yet been determined," the university official said.

Noting that the safety and security of members of the Harvard community is always its top priority, Lapp said: "In the wake of recent tragic events in locations ranging from Paris to Beirut and beyond, we understand that this type of threat will cause great anxiety for many across our campuses.
