Haryana Government today announced a special remission to prisoners on the occasion of Haryana Day.
Haryana was carved out of Punjab on this day in 1966 and the day is celebrated as Haryana Day.
An official release quoting Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the remission would be between 15 days and 60 days depending on the period of imprisonment.
The remission would not be granted to the convicts who are on bail on the day of granting this remission and to Pakistani nationals lodged in state prisons.
Hooda said no remission would be granted to those convicted of rape, dowry death, abduction, murder of a child below the age of 14 years after his abduction, dacoity and robbery.
Also, no remission will be granted to persons convicted under TADA Act, Official Secrets Act, Foreigners Act, Passport Act, and certain sections of Criminal Law Amendment Act and Indian Penal Code.
The release said convicts who have been sentenced for a period of 10 years or more would be granted remission of 60 days, those sentenced for five years or more, but less than 10 years would be granted remission of 45 days and convicts who had been sentenced for two years or more but less than five years would be granted remission of 30 days.
Convicts who have been sentenced for less than two years would be granted remission for 15 days, the release said.
All prisoners convicted by civil courts of criminal jurisdiction in Haryana but undergoing sentences in jails outside Haryana, would also be entitled to grant of remission.
He said remission would not be admissible to deteneus imprisoned for failing to give security for keeping peace for their good behaviour and convicts who committed any major jail offence during last two years and were punished for the same under provisions of Punjab Jail Manual.
